PHANTOM - CAST DASH. X8500
re. the above.
We are still awaiting a reply to our DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}4/M6927.,
On our standard production we need a stiffened dash, whilst for the sports model this is essential. We therefore want to use the cast dash, as designed, or to know what are the objections to it as it is at present, when we will endeavour to design them out.
Would BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} kindly say -
(1) What is the weight of the new and old dash.
(2) What exactly are the difficulties of manufacture, if there are any.
(3) What are the costs of the present, and the cast dash.
(4) Are there any suggestions for improving the design from any of these points of view.
Would HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} try the following experiments in support-ing the column -
(a) Eliminate the support of the column at the dash, and fit in its stead our triangular stays to the column from the top of the dash.
(b) Use the present design of support at the dash, replacing the sphere by set-up rubber.
For the sports car we shall certainly need the stays in any case.
