LONDON, N.W.2.

For the attention of Mr.Grosé.

Dear Sirs,

We have received the "HaDees" car heater which you sent us, and have tried it in a car.

The result of the test is to confirm the writer's opinion expressed to you during your recent visit, that this heater is far too noisy as it stands to be fitted in one of our cars, in contrast to the scheme which you heard while you were here and which you may recollect was inaudible in the full speed position of the motor at car speeds above 30 m.p.h., and inaudible at any car speeds with the motor running at its low speed. The "HaDees" heater is audible at any switch position up to approximately 55 m.p.h. car speed, and is unbearably noisy when the car is running slowly.

Will you please let us know whether you wish to visit Derby to have this demonstrated to you or whether we should return the heater right away.

The noise complained of is largely motor noise but accompanied by a certain amount of fan and general wind noise. No doubt the scheme with the motor on the remote side of the dash running at slow speed would overcome this difficulty and when you have the production pieces available we should be able to try this.

With regard to the small defroster you left with us, could you please let us have an idea of the cost of this unit if we think of purchasing it in quantities of say, 200 at a time.

Yours faithfully,

for ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
