X. 4195 RP/Thn1S/F10.5.21. RE. 19 ARMOURED CARS FOR INDIA OFFICE. -------------------------------- We are still without instructions as to what wheels and tyres are to be fitted to the 19 armoured cars for the India Office. Meantime, the chassis are on test with standard wire wheels, and we are using test tyres for our ordinary standard routine tests. We understand that the first two chassis are to be rigged up, one with Giant Goodyear Pneumatic tyres fitted with Dunlop wire wheels with detachable rims, and the second to be fitted with a set of N.A.P. wheels and tyres. The Giant Goodyear Pneumatics with the special rims are in our possession and we understand that the set of N.A.P. are still in the hands of the Experimental Dept. We are being pressed by Sales Dept. to give a delivery date for the two experimental chassis. As far as we are concerned we hope to have these through our standard routine tests at the beginning of the week after the Works re-open after the Whitsuntide holiday, i.e. about May 25th. If in order, will RP please let us have instructions to rig up the first two cars with special test bodies for delivery and to load these up to armoured car weights in accordance with correspondence which has passed. We would like to point out that pending a decision regarding the wheels, the running board, wings, tyre carrying brackets, etc. are held up. With regard to the urgency of these armoured cars, we have not yet received information as to the date on which these are to be delivered, and should be glad to know whether it is considered necessary to work on them during the Whitsuntide holidays. Will Sales or B.P. please give delivery date. RP/Thn. | ||
