RE SCHEME NO.375 - FRONT BONNET CATCH X.3421. ✓ X.682. Referring to the modification asked for by Mr. Royce to the front bonnet catch to allow of easier operation, the chief reason that accounts for the difficulty on the present design is the presence of the mudguard valance, which does not allow sufficient room in the first place to seize hold of the catch, and in the second place allows no room at all for swinging the hand outwards to disengage the catch from the button. As an immediate policy Mr. Royce would prefer to retain the button in its present standard position, but to raise the hook for the finger considerably, as indicated by the pencil lines on blue print of scheme 375 attached. The operation is further improved by pushing the hook nearer to the bonnet plate, but still allowing sufficient clearance so that the bonnet plate will not be damaged. Incidentally, two other small alterations should be incorporated at the same time. Firstly, the stem of the lever should be carried centrally into the boss. Secondly, the jaws for positioning the lever in the disengaged position should be cancelled. Regarding the other pieces shewn on this drawing, it should be noted that the guide should be shortened as shewn at X, so as to allow ample upward travel of the bonnet catch for the | ||
