LONDON S.W.15.

For the attention of Major C.M.Carington.

Dear Sirs,

We are returning to you under separate cover two MX.{John H Maddocks - Chief Proving Officer}5/2 terminals which have been subjected to experimental test at these works.

One of these terminals is of the standard welded type and the other an experimental one silver soldered as per your letter of the 21st. ult. reference CMC/MEN.

Both of these screens were subjected to similar tests, each consisting of running them on a Vibration Test Rig with a heating element placed round the body of the screen, which maintained the temperature of the screen steadily at 150°C. Both screens were run for 100 hours under these conditions with a frequency of vibration of approximately 33 cycles per second at an amplitude of .015".

It will be seen that the welded joint is far superior to the silver soldered one and we therefore are unable to agree to this form of construction.

Yours faithfully,

FOR ROLLS-ROYCE LTD.
