Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst. WST v6153. K/KC/DPB/28.3.35. Chassis No.B.45.AE. H.R.H.Duke of Kent. ------------------- Further to your Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst13/MA.21.3.35 and your Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Wst7/MA.13.3.35, I received a visit yesterday from Field, the head chauffeur to H.R.H.the Duke of Kent, in connection with the wireless installation (Philco) fitted to the above 3½-litre. Field informed me that he had come to us (K) straight from the Philco people, and quite expected me to have received a communication from you instructing me to change the voltage regulator on the above car, as an experiment to ascertain whether it had any effect on the noise from the set. He mentioned that Mr.Knight of Philco had been in communication with you. As to how far this is correct, I have no information. However, in view of the urgency of the situation due to the fact that H.R.H. returns from abroad in approximately 12 to 14 days, I instructed our electricians to fit several voltage regulators in order to ascertain whether such was the case. The results were rather interesting. Six regulators were installed, and not one succeeded in reducing or minimising the noise emanating from the loud speaker in the slightest degree. In view of this I have promised Field that I will get in touch with you, giving you the results. Perhaps you would let me have your views on this matter, or rather, I must apologise for acting without instructions from you, but as it is rather an urgent case, I have no doubt that you will agree that I adopted the right course. Between you and I, Field is rather fed up with the whole thing, and I do not think it would take very much persuasion for him to suggest to H.R.H. that a change to another make of wireless set is the easiest way to avoid all the trouble he is experiencing.
