B. FROM HDY.{William Hardy} ORIGINAL HDY{William Hardy}2/M28.2.33. C. to ES.DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}- 40/50 EPICYCLIC GEARBOX. Y / 31a We send the following information which we have extracted from remarks made recently by R.{Sir Henry Royce} regarding the control of the proposed epicyclic gearbox:- "The control will be by oil pressure supplied by a pump in the gearbox, but driven from the engine. "The gearbox will probably be separate from the engine, and in this case a shaft with a universal joint each end will be necessary, and it is suggested that this shaft will be about level with the transmission, on the opposite side to the pedals, just clear of the flywheel, and will run between a quarter and a half engine speed. "It is not thought that the drive on the engine will ever have to be provided on the present Phantom engine with timing gears at the front. "The flywheel diameter will not need to exceed that of the 20/25 engine." HDY.{William Hardy} | ||
