re. 40/50 HP. Front Wheel Brakes.

Further to our EP{G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer}2/H15.7.24. the following are a few further points for your attention:-

Servo Gear Noise.
The noise from the gear box when the brake is just slightly applied was objectionable on the third chassis we have tested, and nothing like as good as on the first chassis. This fault has been demonstrated to Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} who explains that this must be expected as part of the present design. We are therefore proceeding with the testing of this car. This feature, however, I am sure will be complained of by customers, especially if other similar cars are not so objectionable. We shall possibly have to tackle this job when our investigations are complete. We strongly recommend therefore that improvements in this respect should be embodied and made standard as soon as possible

Brake Lever setting.
The brake ropes should be set a little shorter so as to allow for stretch after they have been on test. We understand from the Experimental Dept. that these should be fixed up so that the brake levers are .050" away from the stops. (when new - retest on 1st after ropes stretching)
On the third car we experienced trouble of the brakes 'grabbing' with the least movement of the brake pedal, which was overcome by reducing the effect of braking of the front brakes.
The bedding of these shoes seems to be an important feature. We shall be glad if this point can be made clear in the Experimental Dept. instructions.

Oil Depth gauge in gear box.
This is now an easy fit in the box, and we have had trouble with oil leaks. We understand from the Experimental Dept. that these should be fairly good fit. Also should not the "stick" be marked for correct oil level. 7 1/2

Enot Lubricator fixed on the pedal actuating shaft.
This is inaccessible and the gun cannot be fixed.
