Gentlemen,

Your ref. Roy.{Sir Henry Royce}10/W.

In reply to your letter of April 13th, we very much regret to learn that you are experiencing a certain amount of trouble due to point erosion with "Corundite" plugs.

The Writer discussed this matter with Mr. Robotham when he last visited your Works and explained that the type F.L.B.30.X is running at a considerably higher temperature than the plugs which you have used previously and it is this fact which is giving it almost complete immunity from trouble caused by leaded fuels. On the other hand of course a higher temperature must necessarily lead to a rather higher rate of point erosion.

We can assure you that no alteration has been made in the material of the electrodes and we are still strongly of the opinion that the F.L.B.30.X is the most suitable plug for use in the Bentley in the hands of the very large majority of Bentley users. Those users who drive exceptionally hard - most probably on the Continent - may find that a cooler running plug will still be safe against lead attack and at the same time give longer point life.

We are, therefore, preparing for you some "Corundite" plugs type F.L.B.50.X and we very much hope that you will be able to test these under severe conditions on the Continent and then let us know whether our forecast is correct. We ourselves are receiving practically no complaints from users of either Rolls-Royce or Bentley cars and, subject to your correction, are of the firm opinion that excessive point burning is only occurring in exceptional cases.

Yours faithfully,

etc. etc.
