Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux} Z 1113 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/GWH{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}9/R.31.12.36. 6.B.IV. This car was not ready for the road until noon, Tuesday, December 29th. I took it out immediately it was ready. The following features were not passable:- (1) Brakes. Not correctly set - no braking. (2) Carburation. Engine misfiring and blowing back under speeds of 20 M.P.H. Throttles of carburetter had not been set correctly. (3) Ignition late - ½". (4) Front expansion box fouling rear front spring anchorage causing a bad knock. (5) Front wing stone guard fouling tyre on corners, starting to tear same off. (6) Knock in front found to be due to Girling brake equalizer on front axle fouling radiator support, insufficient clearance. (7) Damper unit poundage too high; required setting. (8) Engine movement causes a bad take up of drive when clutch is finally engaged. I am aware that the test in France is urgent, but the car was not in a condition to run until the fault had been remedied. We expect the car will be ready for a further run to-day.
