FILE AT BELPER 1184 To:- Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} Sg.{Arthur F. Sidgreaves - MD}4/DK.15.4.42. re:- Transport. In view of the restrictions on petrol and tyres, it has become necessary to alter the number of and type of Company's cars at present in use. At the Derby Transport Department we have taken off the road all the large cars except one 30 h.p. and also your Straight Eight, and we have replaced some of them by smaller cars. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} and I are using 10 h.p. cars for all except long journeys and I shall be glad if you will do likewise. In your absence I have told Whyman to take off the road and store away from the Clan Foundry experimental cars numbers 10BV, 2B50, 3B50, 4B50 and IRI. From the recent returns of petrol used in the Clan Foundry cars it is obviously not necessary to replace all these cars. This arrangement leaves you with 8 private cars and 4 transport vehicles, which should be sufficient for your department. I have also instructed that all the Company's cars at our factories shall be camouflaged so that they shall not give the impression of being used on other than National work. [Initial] Sg.{Arthur F.
