| The object I first mentioned had disappeared before any boat got near. About twenty minutes after the accident I was proceeding back to Bowness on a course roughly parallel to Miss England's course but nearer the Lancashire shore, when I saw in the water what I thought might be a small portion of the broken step practically submerged with only two tiny knobs showing on the surface. This object was on my port side, between 200 and 300 yards astern of Miss England II, and just on the Lancashire side of the course. I went up to this object and found that it was the water-logged branch produced. | ||
