Y4546 W/S. {Derby Works / Sales} (TM) e.p. [Struck through] e.f. [Struck through] c. or. [Struck through] c. Ms. BY18-P31.8.23. SECURITY BOLTS & BOLT VALVES. Y4546 Referring to MS/EP {G. Eric Platford - Chief Quality Engineer} 30823, we note that Sir Lycett Green is having continued trouble with the tyres on his car owing to the latter coming off. You may rest assured that we are not letting this matter rest. We are putting all the facts of the case, as placed before us, before the Dunlop Company, addressing same for the attention of their Mr Poull who is responsible for dealing with these matters. In addition to this we are supplying him with a copy of the correspondence referred to in this memo giving additional information in regard to the continued trouble with tyres on the car under discussion. In writing the Dunlop Co, we are putting all the information before them to enable them to reconsider the whole position and go over their experiments in relation to the new facts which we are putting before them. We have asked them to let us have their views in regard to this and preferably to have a discussion with us on the subject at Derby. With reference to the whole subject of the use of beaded edge cord tyres, we certainly feel that the best solution to deal with this matter is to use straight sided tyres on every occasion. In this connection we have impressed upon S. for the last two years, the necessity in the first place for standardising straight sided tyres, and in the second place, after they were standardised, we have persistently urged that we should strongly recommend the use of the straight sided tyre, and do all in our power, even to the extent of charging more for the beaded edge, to prevent customers using same. It appears to us that it would be distinctly desirable to let the customer in question have a set of straight sided tyres to run and have his present tyres and wheels sent over to Derby or to the Dunlop Company, to whom, of course, we would despatch them purselves later, with the object of investigating the whole matter, but since we anticipate hearing something from the Dunlop Co, in the course of a day or two, possibly it would be as well to await the decision from them before going to the extreme of supplying the customer with straight sided tyres and wheels, and thereby obtain his beaded edge cord tyres with the wheels they are fitted to, in order to check out what is the cause of the trouble. contd. | ||
