ORIGINAL TO BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} FROM DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} SECRET. DAL/M15.8.24. Copy to - ~~CJ~~ HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} A.{Mr Adams} C. 11. SIDE LEVER MECHANISM. X8320 Since we sent you N.scheme 1812., we have been instructed to reduce the width of the dash. This compels us to alter the side lever mechanism again, and we send you N.scheme 1831., shewing what we propose. Though the primary reason for this alteration is the narrowing of the dash, we find incidentally that it reduces weight and complication, and makes what we expect will be a nicer change speed and brake mechanism. The cars with narrow sports bodies, which we understand are now in progress, will have to have this mechanism. In general the change speed lever follows the lines of the Hawk-Northcliffe, and a new box is called for which will/sent you by Mr. Stent in due course. RECEIVED | ||
