RE ELECTROLYTIC VACUUM VALVE.

1. Replying to yours, EFC1/F9.8.19. I had forgotten that I had promised you a vacuum bulb of the type used for rectifying alternating current for purposes of accumulator charging. I believe however, that Mr. Platford has some of these which have been given him in Newfoundland.

2. These are of the small type used to replace the coherers as wave detectors in wireless telegraphy for aeroplanes. In principle, these vacuum bulbs are the same as those used for accumulator charging, and I believe will be found suitable for use as rectifiers or current-regulators for generators on automobiles. I imagine that it would be better for you to experiment with any of these which Mr. Platford brings back, or which you may be able to obtain through Mr. Barrington from the Equipment Dept: of the R.A.F. I believe the standard type must be used and manufactured in England, since they have been in operation for such a long time.

3. I am writing, however, for sample vacuum bulbs to Dr. Jeffries, of the Nela Lam Co., Cleveland, Ohio.

Oy.
