Whilst at the Paris Depot they had a Phantom car with a slipper knock. This car had been in previously with the same complaint and to cure it they had fitted new bushes to the low inertia slipper wheel. They asked for my opinion of it before dismantling and immediately I heard it I suspected the spring drive plate had broken. The slipper wheel was dismantled and this was found to be the case, the plate having broken on the inner ring in all four places where the ring is cut away. This of course caused the wheel to rock which caused the knock. They immediately telegraphed for a new plate. I believe modifications have been made to this part, is it possible for the new plate with the modification to be fitted to existing cars such as this one so as to overcome a recurrent complaint?
