WESTMINSTER LONDON S W I REFERENCE B.1/MSD 15th February, 1935. Rolls-Royce, Ltd., Derby. Dear Sirs, For the attention of Mr. E.W. Hives. We thank you for the courteous interview kindly granted on the 13th inst. to our Mr. J.{Mr Johnson W.M.} Russell Sharp, from whom we have pleasure in learning that you are agreeable to conduct tests of our new Mobiloil made by the Clearosol (Solvent Extraction) process and have arranged for a 5-gallon drum of each grade to be delivered to you. We understand that this test will be carried out on the bench with a 40/50 h.p. engine which will be fitted to a car for a 15,000 mile road test in France. We are therefore, arranging for the Vacuum Oil Company S.A.F., Paris to hold against the requirements of your tests at their Chateauroux Store a barrel of the new Mobiloil "D". In the course of a few days we shall be forwarding to you an Engineering memorandum describing the Clearosol process which removes more effectively than any previously employed those undesirable constituents of lubricating oil which are likely to set up in sludge formations and gummy deposits in engines, especially under operation at high temperatures. It is no exaggeration to say that the new oils represent the most important step forward in lubrication that has been taken within a decade, and knowing that you always wish to employ the highest quality materials for Rolls Royce and Bentley cars you are one of the first manufacturers --continued-- UNLESS STATED OTHERWISE ALL OILS ARE QUOTED AND INVOICED PER UNIT GALLON OF 9 LBS.
