X719. Expl. Dept. 1st April 1931. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/GWH.{George W. Hancock - Head Chateauroux}S/KT. Messrs Ferodo Ltd. Sovereign Mills, Chapel-en-Frith. For the attention of Mr. Longley. Dear Sir, I am sorry that we have not let you know the progress of the brake linings and the servo lining that you sent for test. I have been extremely busy and have been away from Derby some time, otherwise I would have let you have the results sooner. The brake linings have not yet been tested out on the road due to other more important tests being needed on the cars. We are now in the position to start the test and will give you the results in due course. We have carried out test with the servo linings, and at the moment we are very pleased with the results, but further mileage will have to be run before we definitely form our opinion of the reliability. Re. the brake assembly we promised to let you have, we are very sorry that we have not been able to fulfil our promise but the fact is that we wish to send you the brake drums made in cast iron. Unfortunately these drums have failed during a test, therefore until we obtain satisfactory results we shall not be able to let you have the brake gear for test purposes. In your memo. you state that silence means satisfactory results, this must not be taken as such as we have so many things on hand that it is not always possible to deal with one special test. We will inform you when we have obtained satisfactory results. Yours faithfully, For Rolls-Royce Ltd | ||
