| VALVES & VALVE SPRINGS (Contd.) (5) to which these springs were tempered in order to deal with our complaints of breakage; and while we retained this type of spring, we should be continually wavering between a spring which was too hard and one which was too soft. They believed that this trouble would be overcome with the new design of spring which we had on order. Mr. Barrington informed the Committee that Mr. Johnson had enquired if the rig which we proposed to test our valve springs with in future, would include the "heat of engine" factor. The Committee were agreed that this question of heat was immaterial in as much that the temperature never rose sufficiently to affect the temper of the springs. This factor would therefore not be included in the testing rig. Oth Meeting Re Valve Springs (New Type) Dec.18th.11. Mr Barrington informed the Committee that 4 doz. of these springs had been delivered. Mr Wormald informed the Committee that he was pushing on with the manufacture of the special washers and cotters, and he hoped to have them on test very shortly. | ||
