X.607 - BATTERY FOR CHASSIS 43-AE - HURLIMAN.

Answering your D/BP13/CW13.5.21 we have taken up this matter with the Chloride Co. and are informed that there is no absolute time limit for the dry storage of a new battery so long as the wood separators remain moist. The cells will remain moist for two years if the vent plugs are screwed up tightly. The note on the battery to the effect that the charge must be given before a given date is merely a precaution in case the battery is stored carelessly with the vent plugs out or loose. If the vent plugs are carefully put in, the battery may be kept for two years with no deterioration whatever.

On the other hand, if Mr. Hurliman is unlikely to use his battery for a period exceeding three years, which seems improbable, it is suggested that the Chloride Co. make us up a special battery with dry separators, the efficiency of which battery would not be quite so good.

All things considered, we recommend that he should have a standard battery and it be pointed out to him that it will be quite alright if he takes the precaution of storing the battery in a cool, dark place with vent plugs properly in.
