ROLLS-ROYCE OF AMERICA, INC. SPRINGFIELD, MASS. [Handwritten Note]: X 433 Oy1-E-71426 July 14th, 1926 Mr. E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} W. Hives, Rolls-Royce, Ltd., Derby, England. Re Notes on Current American Practice. Rubber Mountings Dear Hives: I think you will be interested in the lavish use of rubber mounting on the Mack gas-electric bus as enclosed. This is on the lines of the Chrysler engine mounting and is done under the patents of the Rubber Shock Insulator Corporation. Although the Shock Insulators, used as spring shackles, are not a success, because of their lateral "sloppiness" and their "vise-jaw" effect on the springs, the mounting of all chassis parts which transmit impulses to the frame on large blocks of compressed rubber, is rapidly coming into common practice. Do you not think we should make some trials on these lines? Yours very truly, Maurice Olley MO/E [Handwritten Notes in center]: Stdy 1/5 1-33 27/7 [Stamp]: POS... 28 JUL 1926 | ||
