Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}7/LG24.5.23. 40/50 HP: GEARBOX. X3426 On the present 40/50 HP. Gearbox, in order to check the oil level or to add fresh oil, it is necessary to remove the top cover which means taking off 12 nuts. In the case of some cars which have the front seats very low, it is very difficult to get at these nuts and to remove the cover of the gearbox. On pre-war cars, we had an oil level tap. This was removed to make room for the starter motor. Springfield have suggested an oil filling plug in the gearbox cover in such a position that the oil level in the gearbox can be measured. We recommend this is adopted. In connection with this, the gearbox vent is arranged from a hole drilled through the change speed mechanism instead of the special separate fitting which we use at present. We have fitted these modifications on a 40/50 experimental car, and find them to be satisfactory and also an improvement. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
