1163 Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Gry{Shadwell Grylls}15/R.{Sir Henry Royce} 15th March, 1937. Cambridge Instrument Company, Ltd., CAMBRIDGE. For the attention of Mr. C.C. Mason. Dear Sirs, I collected the accelerometer from Mr. Stellan on Saturday afternoon. This morning, I gave it a short try out on our concrete test ground. An immediate disadvantage apparent was its sensitivity to a correct fore and aft level. I do not quite see how this can be overcome. What does concern me is the amount of experimental work you have done in making this instrument. You will remember when Martindale and I were in your office you sketched a very simple apparatus, of which you said you would make a 'mock-up', and of which you said we need not worry about the cost, because it would be very small. Perhaps, therefore, you will ease my mind by giving me an idea of what you would charge for the instrument we are now testing. It is a rather unfortunate feature that it will be seriously damaged if laid on its side. Yours faithfully, For ROLLS-ROYCE LTD. | ||
