X.9910. R2/M9.7.24. To BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from R.{Sir Henry Royce} c. to CJ. BJ. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} Mr. Claremont. RE. SERVO. X.9910. We are sending you tomorrow night the drawings of a shoe type of servo which we think should be clear of all patents. This application might be included in our latest patent at present in hand. It will be noticed that it goes into the same space, also that in a forward direction it would appear to give equal effect, independent of the position of the bedding, if it is fairly equal - i.e. between the shoes - the reason being that should the bedding of the shoe be near the pivot, the increased leverage will give the torque, and if the bedding is near the end of the shoe then the wrap-on would make up for the less leverage. It might be advisable to get this made and tested in case we feel it wiser to abandon the plate type of clutch. I cannot foresee any reason why it should not work equally well. It is a little more difficult to make, but the difference is less than we may have to pay in royalties. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
