| contd :- -11- customers should be warned of this characteristic as it is for this reason that RR. have rejected the triple stud tread in spite of its undoubted advantages for absence of skidding. A point not generally known is that a treaction tread tyre should be run throughout its life with the broad arrows pointing in the same direction. If, when partly worn, the tyre is turned round, the result is likely to be a very noisy tread. (c) Variation in non-skid properties with wear. When new, the tread of a balloon tyre is usually more satisfactory for preventing skidding than a similar tread on a high pressure tyre. When the treads are worn smooth, however, the balloon tyre is likely to be more prone to skid than the high pressure tyre.
