possibly the new trickle rate will be more satisfactory, especially as it is lower when the dynamo temperature is lower.

(4) The proportion of battery charge external load and dynamo delivery with the machine running at 1500 r.p.m., at a temperature of 65°C, was as follows :-

Speed 1500 R.P.M. Amp.load on system. Amp.delivery of dynamo unit. Resultant current charging battery.
0 6.3 6.3
2.75 7.75 5.0
4.7 9.2 4.5
7.1 11.1 4.0
8.1 11.2 3.5
10.65 13.65 3.0
12.5 14.5 2.0
14.0 15.5 1.5

from which it will be seen that the battery is receiving more charge than in the previous case, in which at the high load from 10 to 15 amperes, the battery was giving assistance.

It was found that with the battery in a very low state of charge, the E.M.F. standing at 10 volts before being connected, the maximum charging current delivered by the dynamo to the battery was 19 amperes, the corresponding P.D. having risen to the value 13.8 volts.

As regards commutation, heating and general running, this remains satisfactory as before.

The machine has since this test been handed over to be fitted to experimental chassis 45X, upon which we have previously been running the Bijur 12 volt dynamo and regulator, the regulator portion of which has never been more than
