We tried the car last evening after freeing the exhaust cut out and fitting packing pieces under the buffers, the propeller shaft having fouled the cross member. The buffer clearance after fitting the packing was as follows:
NS{Norman Scott} Front 1 3/4 O/S Front 1 3/4 N/S Rear 3 5/8 O/S Rear 3 7/16
without passengers ballast in rear. The oil pressure failed during the run which necessitated dismantling the release unit, fluff was found under the valve seat. The carburetion on this car is poor, the metering bad from 600 to 1000 revs approx. We have spent this morning getting this more reasonable, the penny of the air valve was lifted 1 1/2 turns, making the underside of the penny when in position level with the bottom of the high speed throat flute. The air passages in the the air valve we opened out slightly at the bottom of the triangle to get more air. We have got very good metering at the various speeds after these alterations. The car is proceeding with its mileage.

We should like to draw attention to the following:
The side steering tube fouls the rear spring shackle cover bolt flange when on half left hand lock.
The ankerage bolts of the front brakes fouls theinside of t the drums. We have reported this feature on all phantoms. It is a very near thing on the drawing and should be specially noted.
The damping of the car for high speed cornering is inadiquate. The front is much to lightly damped. The riding of the front is not so good as the rear, transmission knocks are prevallant.
Valves are noisy and we have the camshaft squeak. The steering is not as bad as one expected, joggles are experienced on rough roads, but on a fairly good surface there is nothing to complain of. for high speed work.
