R.R. 199(230T) (SD676 19-7-17) MP180865 COPY OF LETTER FROM:- FERODO LIMITED. SOVEREIGN MILLS, CHAPEL-EN-LE-FRITH. SALES DEPT. REF. FJF/DHL. 11th October, 1921. (Tuesday) Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd., Nightingale Road, D E R B Y. Dear Sirs, We are obliged by your letter of the 8th inst., (Ref:-Wd{Mr Wood/Mr Whitehead}/Dnl{Mr Dunwel}/HP81021) re Goshawk 11 Clutch Discs. We shall have pleasure in supplying our FERODO BONDED ASBESTOS linings with a bore of 8.4". We will endeavour to get the samples off to you on Thursday next. In regard to shudder mentioned in connection with FEROBESTOS Linings, we think you agree with the view that something of the kind must obtain when starting from rest on low gear, due to the absence of rigidity in all the parts from the clutch face to the rear-axle. In short, through the numerous clearances the engine has to do a certain amount of winding-up of the transmission before its energy is expressed through the rear-axle, followed by release when forward movement is established. This effect is very general, but is nearly always considerably reduced when starting from rest with direct drive engaged. Yours faithfully, F E R O D O L I M I T E D.{John DeLooze - Company Secretary} (Sgd) F.J. Field. Chief Engineer. | ||
