FROM R.{Sir Henry Royce} ORIGINAL R1/M17.11.30. 27-EX. - R's CAR FOR SOUTH OF FRANCE. X8992. As this car will not be ready if it waits to be fitted with the special features originally intended, I have come to the conclusion that it should wait until it is quite satisfactory for the original purpose for which it was intended, and that no notice should be taken of my convenience because I can use the car which is already here, and which has been to France several times, until such time as this 27-EX. can be brought out to France and changed. For instance, there are:- (Item numbers taken from LA{L. A. Archer}/EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}4/M26.9.30.) (1) The bonnet should be kept back for the new shutters, the design for which is not yet completed. (6) Dual carburetters should wait until they have been made and tried, and if found sufficiently satisfactory they would be fitted, but we should wait until they have had a chance of bench and road test before deciding to fit single carburetters. (7) Lower steering controls - these require some improvement before they will be good enough for standardisation. (9) Petrol tank with central vent, revised K.S. gauge fitting, and lowered filler. (13) Two note electric horn (double switch on column.) (14) Friction dampers to axles front and rear. (19) Radiator with square tubes: Calorstat LeC.2826. Shutters free of friction. (20) Radiator with central suspension. (21) Complete one-shot lubrication. (22) Untarnishable finish of all bright parts. (23) Petrol pump. (24) Hardened crankshaft. (27) Maximum restriction jet to starter carburetter: LeC. 2731. (28) Improved starter main switch LeC. 2804. (29) Taper valve springs LeC. 2697. (30) Reverse lamp switch. (31) Stop lamp switch. (In accordance with DA{Bernard Day - Chassis Design}/EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}4/M26.9.30., with the exception of (1) and (14). Should any one or two items delay the work unreasonably, or be considered undesirable, this will modify the programme. R.{Sir Henry Royce} | ||
