To Wor.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} From Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} 'BENSPORT' The only work which has been done on Bensport is the running of the Peregrine engine supercharged. This running has shewn that the Peregrine engine will run fast and will develop good horse-power. We are certain however that we shall find development of the satisfactory supercharged car full of difficulties because whatever we try and say we shall not be satisfied unless this car is entirely satisfactory. We believe we are in for a whole heap of trouble with superchargers. To start with we are not yet satisifed with the Powerplus on the question of royalty, yet this is the only blower which is being designed for the engine. We have made it our business to get all the information we can on the troubles with blowers and cars fitted with blowers and it is certain that no-one yet has found a satisfactory solution. We can foresee that we shall finish up with a blower of our own design and this will take time. We have run the Peregrine engine sufficiently to know that we shall need much larger studs to hold the cylinder joint when run supercharged. This may mean a re-design of the engine having increased centres between the cylinder bores. We expect that within five or six weeks we shall have Peregrine running on the road fitted with a temporary scheme of supercharger and drive which will enable us to get some sort of idea of what the car will be like. It will not of course be anything which we could use on production. Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} | ||
