RR. PATTERN HYDRAULIC SHOCK
DAMPERS - (FURTHER IMPROVEMENTS) -X.235.

It will be realised that these should never
be fitted single acting, either to the front or back axles,
but the proportion should be from 30% to 50% upwards, compared
with the 100% rebound damping force.

We have sent you to-day a modified design where-
in there is always from the period of rest a slight amount of
free movement without damping. We do not anticipate that
this will noticeably alter the efficiency of these shock dampers
in reducing high speed steering wobbles, but it should be
carefully noted whether it does so. It might demand a rather
stiffer spring to control the double acting valve.

The great advantage of this arrangement is that it
is much less liable to knock in the connecting link joints. It
also should permit the car to ride over small irregularities more
smoothly.
