MAGNETOS WITHOUT AUTOMATIC ADVANCE FOR NEW PHANTOMCodename for PHANTOM I CHASSIS.
Please find attached copy of the up-to-date specification of Magneto(without automatic advance) suitable for the RR. New PhantomCodename for PHANTOM I chassis, in which automatic advance is effected externally by the oil relay. In addition to improvements which have been effected on the standard Watford magneto, i.e. better end location of sleeve to reduce sleeve noise, we have received for investigation two B.T.H. type PM6 magnetos, Nos. 356071 & 356147, which comply with the attached specification in practically all respects, but with one exception that the possible firing range in magneto degrees is 50 instead of the 58 stated to be desirable for the very best functioning of the engine. There is also a probability of receiving in the near future Lucas magnetos also purporting to be to our specification, and yet a further possibility of Simms magnetos similarly made up. For the time being, however, we have the two B.T.H. type PM6 magnetos and both these have now been placed on experimental cars for observation of running qualities.
