SEQUENCE STARTER- 2A or 2B, SCHEME. x7650/53B

In conversation with Hs.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} we have decided that though it involves a new crankcase, we must have the EAC.1 engine which is represented by that in 9-EX, converted so as to take the No.2 scheme of sequence starter in place of the No.1 scheme which is at present thereon and which may be considered entirely obsolete and scrap, one good reason being that the No.2 scheme is fundamentally better in the sense of the pinion receding from a jam giving the driver another chance of engagement.

The question to be decided is as to which of the three types should be fitted.

(1) The 2A scheme as at present on 14-EX, with minor variations in the gears.
(2) The 2B1 scheme which is fully instructed to the Expl. Shop. and well on the way to being made.
or (3) The 2B2 scheme, i.e. the latest 2B scheme in accordance with Mr. Royce's new LeC. 2496 which has only recently come through from W.W.

We do not know what the interchangeability of these three No.2 schemes is, but I am under the impression that 2A and 2B are not interchangeable on the same crankcase.

We cannot yet tell whether the 2B scheme will be any advantage over the 2A, and unless you see an objection, I think perhaps we ought to instruct to have one of the 2B schemes fitted, and apparently we may fit the one that is already partly made, as being the most expedient. This, in spite of the fact that Mr. Royce is not aware that we have
