P & R SPECIAL BATTERY 3A. X4414P

Further to our EFCl/T16.2.27, we have thought it of sufficient interest to circulate the detailed reports on the inspection of the cells of this special battery. Two of these were opened up and inspected by ourselves, and report JC.72 in this connection was attached to our EFCl/T16227. The battery with the other four cells was returned to P & R for opening up and inspection by their own experts, and their report is contained in letter ref. M/5. of the 5th inst. from Mr. Minchin of Messrs. Peto & Radford, copy of which we attach.

As previously remarked, the general behaviour of this battery has been very satisfactory. The reports on the condition of the battery when failure occurred are sent out as a matter of technical interest. It is undoubtedly the case that very good service can now be obtained from P & R R-R batteries and from those of the Exide Company, if these batteries are reasonably well looked after.

EFC.

Our present standard are 7-plate sections, similar to those referred to in these reports.

In regard to Messrs. P & R's remark with reference to excessive charging current, it is of course part of our bench test to give the battery over-charge treatment at high rate, such as it might have when in position on a car.
