The footbrake appeared to be pretty effective, and struck me as smooth-acting. The hand brake did not appear to be much use, and the operating lever was in a very inconvenient position, so that one would not use the hand brake for ordinary driving. It was quite easy to make the brakes jagger - very nearly as badly as an R.R. and this in spite of the long torque tube.

The engine started very easily and silently, but I did not actually start it from the cold. The various controls and instruments on the car, with the exception of the hand brake, previously referred to, seemed quite conveniently placed.

The clutch was very nice, and the speed-changing very easy and quiet, and I certainly think that this clutch would be worth examining.

The petrol consumption appeared to be extraordinarily heavy, though we thought that probably the gauge was not reading correctly. We did not appear to be doing more than 12 or 14 miles miles to the gallon, and at certain parts of the run we appeared to be doing about 6 miles to the gallon. As I say, I think this was due to the way in which the petrol gauge reads. The filler for the petrol tank is most inconvenient.

The engine on the whole had plenty of power, and the two car would climb most hills on top gear. It would not take the hill from Via Gallia to Middleton on top gear, but it would rush up it on second at 35 miles an hour. Running light
