Referring to Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}4/LG15.10.25., Mr. Royce does not wish to use the multiple plate clutch arrangement for taking the end thrust, as shewn on EX.860., as he considers it should not be necessary. Other people do not use it and it represents a considerable addition of pieces.
It is thought that the plain bearing on the top with the single lubricated thrust at the bottom should give results equal to the proposed plate clutch, or better, and it should be remembered that all 40/50. and 20 HP. chassis up to the present are running about with a plain bearing on the top. It is understood that with the larger areas recently provided on Phantom in this position, the result as regards wear and absence of stickiness is very good.
