To By.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} from Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std. c. Roy.{Sir Henry Royce} Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std.10/AP.7.2.38. With regard to the rubber hose connections in S.1633.K. specification Leyland & Birmingham Rubber Co's hose which have been standardised on all chassis on account of its undoubted superiority as regards durability, freedom from swelling, disintegration etc., objection has been raised to this hose on the ground of its colour, which normally is red. We were under the impression that no difficulty would be experienced in obtaining the same specification hose in a black colour - the makers, however, state that this specification has been carefully developed (originally in order to meet our plant requirements) and that its colour cannot be altered without affecting its properties. They have, however, submitted a sample hose with a dark grey outer coating which retains the same red rubber in contact with the coolant - this appears to satisfy our requirements and should accordingly be instructed and ordered for all cars in place of the normal S.1633.K. rubber at present called for. Roy{Sir Henry Royce} will supply the necessary identification number. Any connections in red hose already made should be utilised and not scrapped. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Std. | ||
