SECRET. 650 Copy to Dev. Rm.{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} RMOY. RRes. Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Hdy.{William Hardy} G/Rby F.J.H WRAITH III - STEERING COLUMN. With reference to our E/Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}3/M.27.4.37 and the suggestion to use welding instead of brazing for the assembly of the Wraith III. steering column outer tube, we have received the following report from G/Rb.{R. Bowen} referring to N.Sch.5133:- "We are of the opinion that the suggestion to gas weld the top sleeve and bottom bracket on the outer steering tube would enhance rather than decrease the cost of construction. These pieces are at present dip brazed and even taking into consideration the fact that it would be unnecessary to fit the taper pegs, the dip brazing method is cheaper in factory cost by approximately 1/- per chassis." In view of the remarks of the Cost department, we recommend that the existing system of construction by dip brazing be maintained. E/Ev.{Ivan Evernden - coachwork} | ||
