-5- Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer}/Swdl.{Len H. Swindell}1/MR.23.2.39. FUTURE TESTS. (1) The third engine will include the raised exhaust guide bosses with the object of improving the cooling of the exhaust valves. If efficient, it is quite possible that it will enable solid stem valves to be used as against the present sodium filled valves. (2) 2.75 diameter journal cranks are instructed for future engines to give increased stiffness and increased bearing area with which we anticipate that Vandervell bearings will be entirely satisfactory. (3) Crankshaft oscillations and the reduction of the amplitude and isolation from the cam wheel by means of the dampers, which are at present being designed. (4) Camshaft tests most suitable to combine maximum power, MEP and idling. (5) Induction system and carburation with endeavour to reduce the depression.
