X4575 As regards chassis experiments, one of the original Goshawk coils has now been tried over the wheelcase, and has given results about equal to the best improved coil in bakelite case in position on the engine, the figure of merit of the coil being reckoned on the magnitude of additional, external spark gap it will stand without causing the engine to misfire at the highest temperatures.

It is now being investigated whether the 40/50 coil in stabalite case is superior in any degree to the same coil over the engine.

X4079c Instructions for a coil with increased sized core, deletion of hedgehogging, etc. have now been passed in the Expl. Shop.
