R.P.81 S. SMITH & SONS (Motor Accessories) LTD. CRICKLEWOOD WORKS, LONDON, N.W.2. CONTINUATION NO. 1 Messrs. Rolls-Royce Ltd. 14th April 1938. We have examined the cylinder head which has been forwarded to us and certainly the corrosive attack seems to be considerable. Whilst we cannot pretend to have a special knowledge of metallurgy, we feel, from our experience, that under normal conditions, had inhibited Ethylene Glycol been used without any addition of dichromate, this deterioration would not have taken place. It does just occur to us that this corrosion which is very local might be due to the use of a copper-asbestos gasket forming an electro-couple with the aluminium cylinder head, but doubtless Messrs. Smith will have considered this point." Yours faithfully, For S. SMITH & SONS (MOTOR ACCESSORIES) LIMITED. | ||
