VISIT OF MR. HOPKINS OF THE MIDLAND CYLINDER CO.

On Wednesday, the 6th.inst., we received a visit from Mr. Hopkins of the Midland Cylinder Company to inspect the cylinder casting which had been made by them and which turned out scrap owing to porosity in the bore. Generally speaking apart from this fault the casting was quite reasonable but the Brinell was low compared with our Standard, being approximately 190.

The Midland Cylinder Co. are now proceeding with a further casting which it is hoped will be delivered by Wednesday next, the 13th.inst., on which some modified coring is to take place to eliminate the fault referred to.

The porosity took place on No.1 and 6 bores which give our own foundry the most trouble.

When the next casting is delivered we will report further on the condition.
