The two rotor shafts used for test purposes as representing charge withdrawn from the nitriding furnace on the 27th. Jan. have now been tested for distribution of case.
It was found that the 40.50 H.P. shaft was hard on the splines and soft on the undercut at one end, and hard on the taper but soft on the undercut, threads, and parallel part at the other end.
The 20. H.P. shaft was hard on the taper, parallel part, and undercuts at one end, and hard on the parallel part but soft on the undercut at the other end.
We understand that several parts should be in the soft condition.
