To DA.{Bernard Day - Chassis Design} from E.{Mr Elliott - Chief Engineer} Copy to CJ. [struck through] " " WOR.{Arthur Wormald - General Works Manager} [struck through] " " BY.{R.W. Bailey - Chief Engineer} [struck through] " " HS.{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} [STAMP: ORIGINAL] E1/G21/10/21. [STAMP: Triangle] [STAMP: Circular, RECEIVED, FO 26 POST, with clock face] X429 RE ITEMS TO BE ALTERED ON "GOSHAWK II". Would you please instruct, in accordance with Mr. Royce's wishes, the following :- RADIATOR CAP. X4240 The radiator should have the 40/50 H.P. type of radiator cap in nickel silver. I believe the same size of cap will do. This is with a view to maintaining the R.R. appearance, and also to make the cap suitable for carrying the mascot. CYLINDER AND VALVE GEAR NUTS. X4225 X4226 Mr. Royce does not wish the cylinder head nuts, whether enclosed or outside, to be castellated, neither should the nuts which secure the dog clamping the valve tappet guides be castellated. FAN DRIVE BRACKET. X4237 The nut which tightens the steel strap for the fan pulley adjustment should be lengthened so as to bring the hexagon clear of the bracket to facilitate operation. STEERING BOX. X4264 Mr. Royce wishes, on Mr. Hives' suggestion, to try a solid nut for the steering box. This nut should have a little trough cast in it to catch the lubricant from the lubricator on the lid.{A. J. Lidsey} Thick oil should be used for lubricating the steering nut.
