The change of taper on the Bentley Rear Axle Pinion to increase torque transmission.

Bentley - Rear Axle Pinion. Herewith is N.Sch.4662 which shows a 1 in 8 taper on the pinion end instead of the 1 in 4 now standard. This is intended principally for use with the large bore Bentley, though this is now running with a 1 in 4 taper. By increasing the thread diameter at the same time, the taper transmits about three times the torque of the present taper, or rather more than twice first speed torque with the large bore engine.
