We are starting a 10,000 miles test in England with 4-B-IV Open Touring Bentley, with the following modifications fitted :- (1) Rear axle Ransome & Marles ball race with new cage made in duralumin. Not Instructed (Ransome & Marles Brg GB1208 fitted at 28 in B) (2) Front and rear brakes lined with FB4A material. Not Instructed (3) Propellor shaft sliding joint breather hole opened out to .250 and splines treated with Lanoline (replacing grease). Not Instructed P (4) Scheme lec.3873 to prevent valves dropping into the cylinder head in case a spring breaks. all chassis will eventually have this feature (5) Controllable dampers modified to Hu.1359; i.e., bellows stem deleted; instead load set to 40 lbs. Not Instructed (6) Clutch centre to EX.14446 to restrict movement of springs. Not Instructed X (7) Petrol pipe line made 1/4" throughout. (Not instructed) P (8) Battery box cross member moved back EV{Ivan Evernden - coachwork}3116. (9) Engine bottom half and clutch case in magnesium, sump drain plug to LEC.3735. P (10) Starting handle dog to enable fan belt to be removed, LEC.3784. C Series cars only P (11) Spherical bearing equaliser shafts, N.Sch.3897/3912/3932. Instructed for 1st in C X (12) Lagged intermediate silencer box to improve "tinniness" of exhaust.
