X1113 Cricklewood, Sept. 15th, 1936: Phantom III Complaints. Handwritten notes (top left): To Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair} c.c. to By HS{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Rm{William Robotham - Chief Engineer} We are doing this A complaint has arisen with the ammeter showing a discharge of 20 amps. Actually the needle was sticking. The facts of the case are as follows :- (1) A discharge of 12 amps. takes place with all lamps etc. switched on. (2) The Windtone Horns take 18 amps. (3) When the lamps etc. are on, and Windtone Horns are used, a discharge through the ammeter of 30 amps. takes place. Although the meter is capable of dealing with this amount, there is every likelihood of the mechanism jamming, also causing the needle to become strained, and it does not read zero afterwards. To overcome this feature, could not the Horns be wired up without going through the ammeter. The continual flicking over of the needle is not good for a sensitive instrument. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/G.W.Hancock. Handwritten note (bottom): BY We have no objection to this and consider it should be done on all PIII cars. WHV. 17/9/36. | ||
