X8783. Hm.{Capt. W. Hallam - Head Repairs} from EFC. EFC2/AD5.5.30. CHASSIS 106-XJ - MR. HUBBARD. X.4520. Failure of head lamps With reference to the correspondence attached, having carefully looked this through it appears that the main trouble has been due to the use of what is known as the Court two-way foot switch for switching the lighting from the head lamps to the centre lamp. This switch was adopted by Sales and fitted to a number of chassis sometime before a sample was sent to us for examination. We immediately condemned the switch as being quite unsuitable for an R.R. car as soon as we had an opportunity of inspection, but now we understand that this switch and in fact the central lamp system completely, has been dropped in favour of the use of Lucas type RB.{R. Bowen}170.S. head lamps in which it is possible to incorporate electrically operated dipping reflectors. As you say, the matter is somewhat serious, and would not have arisen if these switches had been submitted to us for criticism before being adopted. EFC. Correspondence attached. | ||
