43117 Exptl. Dept. Hs{Lord Ernest Hives - Chair}/Bwg.{J. C. Bowring}27/KW. 26th November, 1934. Messrs. S. Smith & Co. (M.A.) Ltd., Cricklewood Works, London, N.W.2. Attention of Mr. C.W.Nichols. Dear Sirs, Jackalls fitted to 5-B-IV. Thank you for your letter S.1 of the 22nd inst. We are forwarding to you to-day under separate cover the N/S rear Jack Bracket taken from the above. This you will see is fractured across the master location piece which prevents the Bracket from turning on the axle tube. This fracture may of course be due to a faulty casting. However, we have not disturbed it further, as we think you should see it as removed from the chassis. With regard to the O/S rear, the master location piece of this bracket has about 1/4" between the face and axle pad, so that actually it does no thing until such time that the bracket moves round some considerable way on the axle, even then only a small portion of the locating piece would check the movement. Should the fracture be due to a faulty casting, will you please let us have similar replacements; if however it is a fault in design, will you please hasten us through a pair of modified brackets. | ||
