chassis with more rigid support and spring deflections throughout arranged to correspond exactly with those on the 20 HP. which gives us such excellent riding. Our present test shewed us that we could definitely measure an improvement in riding due to the extra weight on the back of the car.

(g) To prevent any misapprehension as to the magnitude of the road shocks that we are measuring, we give the following details of one of our tests.

Ordinary good main road with a slight wavy surface.
Test stretch 3/4 mile long - road speed 23 m.p.h.

Initial water level.
Final level 20 HP. .270
Final level 40/50 .570
.127

Quantity of water lost - 20 HP. = .56 cu.ins. }
New PhantomCodename for PHANTOM I = 4 cu.ins. } Measuring device fixed to the centre of the rear seat boards.

These figures shew that even on the car which is the source of complaint the actual displacement of the passengers is very small, though this small movement is definitely uncomfortable.

(h) It will be observed that we have confined our tests exclusively to the conditions specified by Sales as a contd :-
